The Alamo is a former mission in the province of Coahuila y Tejas, now known as San Antonio, Texas. It was built by the Spanish Empire in the 18th century for education and religious conversion among the local Native Americans. The mission was secularized in 1793 and became a parochial church in 1804. Today it is a museum and popular tourist destination.
